Moth Pests London Hertfordshire

Problems caused by Moths

The clothing moth, or actually the caterpillar (larva) of this moth, is well known as a serious pest. It can feed not only from clothing (wool in particular) but also from many other sources.

Identify a Moth problem

You may find damage on materials of animal origin such as wool, angora, cashmere and furs. The damage from the larval feeding is often very visible although the actual larvae can be very difficult detect as they hide from the light. Outdoors adults are flying from May to September but indoors adults are found all year round.  Clothing moth infestations are found in both London and Hertfordshire.

In the home the most obvious signs of infestation are the damage to clothes and sometimes carpets (usually around the edges).

Pest control treatment for Moths

As with most of our pest control treatments, we usually do two visits as a follow up visit allows us to make sure any actions we take are successful. Our fully trained pest control technician starts by talking to you about the problems you are having before assessing the situation.  Please be aware that the pest controller will often need to inspect other areas and not just the visible source.

Once the source of infestation has been located, the pest controller with remove and destroying any infested materials. They will then apply a residual insecticide to all infested areas. An additional ultra-low volume application of insecticide is often applied.

Moths are fairly easy to treat as long as the treatment is carried out thoroughly and every possible larva development site is treated. They can often be found in nests so any possible source by these should be checked when tracing the infestation.

As with all our treatments, the pest control technician will leave a report with you with details of any treatments and recommendations.  If a follow up visit is likely to be needed, our technician will arrange a suitable date and time with you. Generally this will be about a week or two later and sometimes a second treatment is required.
